The Firm’s specialists perform blowout prevention & well control for more than 10000 gas wells (all gas wells in Russia), which are being drilled and exploited. They timely reveal and prevent arizing gas-oil-water kicks, conduct workover & restoration of wellhead equipment at functioning wells under pressure, without stopping their exploitation. The aim of blowout preventive service is to prevent open gas & oil blowouts, which can be resulted in a huge ecological and financial damage. The state of each controlled well is continuously checked day and night, starting since its construction. In case gas-oil-water kicks or other emergency situations arize in any well, our well control teams can leave any minute for elimination of emergency, taking prompt and quick actions to kill the emergency, not stopping to exploit the well, and in case a blowout happenes - to start fighting the released force of nature.

Open oil & gas blowouts, which are referred to the hardest types of emergencies, represent very complicated problem for workers of oil & gas industry. They often are real natural disasters, demanding huge financial expenditures and time for elimination, making extremely problematic the work of drilling and oil-gas-recovery enterprises and the living settlements that are adjacent to emergency area, including industrial and agricultural facilities. Killing open blowouts at the wells involves many enterprises, fire-fighting, rescue and medical services into very hard continuous work day and night. Hundreds of people, great number of technique, vehicles are taken from their main work places. Killing long-time, complicated blowouts costs millions of Roubles expenditures, even not taking into consideration direct losses resulted by oil & gas outbursts.

In case such emergencies arise at H2S-containing fields, there is great danger of intoxication of emergency service personnel and inhabitants of adjacent living settlements. Open blowouts, which are often accompanied by fires, cause great

damage to economy. They destroy expensive equipment and technique. Work of enterprises in blowout areas is paralysed for a long time. Blowouts prevent and sometimes exclude industrial recovery of revealed raw material resources. They are real danger to life of people, causing bursts, fires, mass intoxication of people and domestic animals.

The Firm’s blowout service was created in 1968, when the growth of oil & gas recovery in the USSR was caused by active development of oil & gas fields in the regions with complicated geological and climate conditions (West Siberia, Extreme North, Middle Asia, the Caspian, Azov and Black seas).

For 30 years of work, “Gazobezopasnost” specialists have successfully killed more than 120 open oil & gas blowouts (including burning and marine ones) on the territories of the former USSR, Afganistan, Poland, Roumania, Vietnam. During the Iraq-Kuwait conflict in 1991,they worked as consultants on killing open oil & gas blowouts at the invitation of the Kuwait oil company. Since 1994, groups of the Firm’s specialists have been working on marine platforms offshore Vietnam in the South-Chinese Sea, at the wells of the Karachaganak oil-gas-condensate field (Northern Kazakhstan), where “British Gas” and “Agip” Companies conduct drilling operations. Preventive well control is also conducted on marine platforms in the Arctic Region.
